The Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Evaluation Project (ATSISPEP) is working with community members to evaluate a range of existing Indigenous suicide prevention programs and services. The project team have hosting six regional roundtables across Australia in 2015 and 2016.

Regional roundtables

Adelaide

The Adelaide roundtable was held on the 26th of April 2016.

Cairns Roundtable

In October 2015, a regional consultation was held in Cairns.

Darwin Roundtable

In July 2015, a regional consultation was held in Darwin, co-hosted by the Aboriginal Medical Service Alliance of the Northern Territory (AMSANT). Representatives were invited from communities across the Territory as well as from service providers, government and research institutions.

Kimberley Roundtable

In August 2015, a regional consultation was held in Broome, hosted by the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service and the Kimberley Regional Aboriginal Health Planning Forum.

Mildura Roundtable

The first roundtable was held Mildura on 12th March 2015, Victoria and co-hosted by the Mallee District Aboriginal Service. The roundtable was well attended by representatives from local services, Aboriginal community controlled organisations and a good cross section of government and non-government agencies.

 

Shoalhaven

The Shoalhaven roundtable was held in Nowra on 28th April 2016.

Topical roundtables

National Roundtables targeting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth, people identifying as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Intersex, and those involved in the Justice System were held and have provided very useful ‘front-line’ perspectives of the central issues involved for each of these groups.

Justice Roundtable

The Justice roundtable, was the third national roundtable held on 20 March 2015 in Canberra and co-hosted by the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healing Foundation, examined issues associated with Criminal Justice (courts and jails), suicide and suicide prevention.

LGBTQI Roundtable

People identifying as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Intersex (LGBTQI) participated in the second national roundtable also co-hosted by the National Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Healing Foundation in Canberra on 18th March 2015. This was the first-ever Indigenous LGBQTI forum.

Youth Roundtable

The first national roundtable, held in Canberra on 16 March 2015 and co-hosted by the National Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Healing Foundation, invited representatives from across Australia and focused on suicide prevention in the youth sector.

Expert stakeholder consultations

Clinical Factors roundtable

Clinical Factors roundtable was held in Darwin on January 29, 2016.

Critical Response Meeting

In July 2015, a meeting of people examined the need for a crisis response mechanism in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The meeting was held at the University of Western Australia to consider the need for the suitability and effectiveness of a crisis response model in an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander setting.

Suicide and Suicide Attempts Data and Statistics Workshop

The Suicide and Suicide Attempts Data and Statistics Workshop was on 6th November 2015 in Canberra.
